August 20, 2013 – Moorestown/Lumberton, NJ — Young’s Landscape Management (Young’s), a South Jersey based, full service landscaping company and member of the national trade association Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), participated in PLANET’s Legislative Day on the Hill and its Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery.
On July 23, 2013, hundreds of PLANET members converged on Capitol Hill to meet with their local officials and discuss a wide array of issues impacting the landscape industry, including H-2B, over-regulation, and Lyme disease related legislation. This followed a day in which many of these same professionals from across the nation brought their crews to Arlington National Cemetery to spend the day mulching, upgrading sprinklers, cabling and installing lightening protection for trees, pruning, liming 150 acres, planting, and aerating the soil.
“This event allows PLANET members to meet with their elected officials and discuss issues that are important to their businesses and the lawn and landscape industry as a whole,” said PLANET President Glenn Jacobsen, Landscape Industry Certified, about the annual Capitol Hill event.

As for the volunteer efforts at Arlington National Cemetery, “Our members look forward to this opportunity each year to give back to the men and women who gave their lives for their country,” said Bruce Allentuck, Landscape Industry Certified, PLANET member and chairman of the event. “We consider it a privilege to be able to lend our time and talents to such a worthwhile project.” Many PLANET members have special connections at the cemetery either through relatives and friends who are buried there or through their own military service.
PLANET partnered with several industry-related organizations and the event’s Platinum sponsors, Caterpillar, Inc. and New Holland Construction. For more about PLANET, visit or call the PLANET office at 800-395-2522 or contact Young’s by calling 609-654-5441 or online at

Creating the Perfect Space for Your Staycation

    Last updated 1 year ago

Today, entertaining at home has never been more popular and outdoor living spaces have taken on a whole new meaning – a place where there are no walls and the options are limitless. So, beyond the traditional landscape refresh of a home’s exterior - assessing winter damage, pruning, mulching and weeding – there are several notable trends.

According to Steve Katz, licensed landscape architect and designer with Young’s Landscape Management, “An outdoor living environment should be a natural extension of the home – a functional space that blends well within the environment, style and taste of one’s home.”

“As people continue to spend more time at home, there are clearly certain must have’s in an outdoor living area,” Katz continues. “Somewhere to cook, a place to relax and an area to have fun.” It begins with nature and landscapes filled with lush, colorful plantings, native plants and perennial gardens. This is complemented by custom hardscapes of every variety.

    Outdoor Kitchens

Outdoor kitchens are always popular but forego the standalone barbeque of the past. Homeowners are looking for much more. From a dual-burning grill to wet bar and storage areas, everything is easily at arm’s reach. For those who love to cook, additional amenities include searing areas, built-in smokers and warming trays.

    Terraces & Patios

Equally as popular are outdoor terraces with tiered patios designed to create a multi-room effect – a main level for the kitchen and dining area complemented with a sublevel, using seating walls to shape intimate nooks and maybe a warming fireplace. To add a bit of charm, some outdoor living environments are highlighted with an ornamental pergola. These wooden structures generally consist of open cross beams supported by pillars and the lattices can be adorned with shadow boards or customized awnings.

For over 20 years, Young’s has been on the cutting edge of the landscape industry, creating a perfect escape right at home. With locations in Moorestown and Lumberton, Young’s professional team regularly offers consultations at clients’ homes and businesses throughout South Jersey. For more information or to take the first step in the planning process, call (888) 531-3678.

    Improving Your Outdoor Living Space

    Last updated 1 year ago

Now that temperatures are rising in South Jersey, it's the perfect time to get your backyard prepared for summer barbecues and pool parties. No matter how large or small your yard is, you can transform it into the perfect outdoor retreat with landscape elements such as hardscaping and lighting. Here is a guide to improving your outdoor living space:

    Add Hardscaping Features

One simple way to improve your outdoor living space is to utilize hardscaping features such as a natural stone patio or a fire pit. No matter what the design element is, you can work with your South Jersey landscaping company to create a look that will fit both your style and your needs. If you enjoy entertaining friends: then consider adding an outdoor kitchen that is fully equipped, as well as a pleasant dining area or location to socialize.

    Install Accent Lighting

Adding low voltage accent lighting to your landscape will allow you to enjoy your outdoor environment long past sunset.  This investment not only adds safety and security, it brings your landscape alive at night.

Beauty in the landscape which may not be apparent during the day “ pops” when properly accented with lighting.  Shapes, textures and even colors can be highlighted with the right low voltage fixtures.

Up-lighting or down-lighting trees can have a dramatic effect.  Outdoor patios and pathways can be illuminated with path lights or Tiki/path light hybrids.  Pools and other water features look magnificent with the lights or Tiki’s flame jumping on their surface.

    Maintaining Your Oasis

If you have been eager to put your green thumb to good use, or would like assistance in keeping your landscape lush and vibrant then speak with your South Jersey lawn care professionals.  The top landscaping companies in the area offer comprehensive programs that cover the basics of lawn, flower, tree and shrub care ensuring that they survive throughout the various seasons of the year.
